I played all ff games from 1 to 9 (except 3) and… comparing the battle system, interface, soundtracks, and over all storyline, i think the best ff games are: 8, 4 and 6, in that order. These are three of the longest ff games, and the three with the best storylines and soundtracks. I think ff4 and ff6 have a better storyline than ff7, and, as I said, i’ve played all from 1-9, so i know ff7’s storyline, and i must add: I prefer Crisis Core than the original.

I’d recommend you play them all from FF 6 to 12 (except 11, because it’s an MMO) even if most of them have really dated graphics. (the story and gameplay make up for it, trust me) If you can’t afford the time to play that much, then go for at least FF 7. It’s become the flagship of the series. Oh and if you can’t stand old SNES and ps1 graphics, then go for FF X, FFX-2 and FF12. Those are decent enough visually.

And even then, some parts of the game were compressed in order for the whole thing to fit on a Blu Ray disc. It is, to date…the biggest console game ever created. So having to wait 5 minutes in between each chapter, is perfectly understandable and not that big a deal. I just took a smoke break whenever Snake lights one up, and waited for the next chapter. Can’t complain.

) and the good old liner game play is nice change compared to the 10000 decions in games like mass effect 2 (good game aswell thow)

I don’t think my expectations were too high, honestly I expected developers to improve on what was known, but instead on they started to dumb down RPGs since the PS2 era. FFs were always big budget games since the PSX era, with the nicest graphics the console could take, regardless, they still had worldmaps up to IX. It doesn’t really matter be it cartoon cellshading or not, they could have a map, they just didn’t want to.

I was happy to know it came on several disks, I really thought it was cos it was a huge game. To my disappointment, I was done with disk 1 in 10 hours sharp, and I started to get really upset. Then I realized, it’s all eye candy, that’s why it comes with 3 disks, really heavy graphics, low gameplay. Not to mention the game was really easy. It was not worth the money, at least not mine.

I still think they’re both enjoyable games with flaws that are ok to overlook. Its not about “oh I can’t fight this extra boss boo” or “why are there no minigames or towns?”. Design choice people, this is a different time with different design choices for the series. The only problem I have with XIII is that theres no “prelude”.

Now think if u controlled every single char and ability… that would make a jumbled up rollercoaster ride..

If this game was not a part of the Final Fantasy franchise, many people would have different thoughts about the game. Final Fantasy 3(6) and Final Fantasy 7 set the bar for the series. It’s very difficult to make epic game after epic game; especially when many of the people who worked on FF 7 are no longer involved with the FF franchise.

Final Fantasy 8 was cool, with that dance scene everybody will remember forever. Final Fantasy Tactics(the original, not advanced) is on the same level of Code Geass, storyline-wise. Final Fantasy 10 had some of the best music. I tried FF12…since when was loot random? This is final fantasy, not world of warcraft

Everyone has their opinion on which were the “great” FF games, (it appears to be a commonly agreed upon fact that I, II and III were “good” games,) and to me, FFVI was TEH great game… I really hope that Versus XIII will be a great game. It has potential.

About a year ago I was like “Kingdom Hearts is epic FF sucks butt! D:” without even playing a FF game in the first place. Then my first FF game was Dissidia and I was like “wow this is BORING!” because of the weird gameboard style movement. This game was just… not at all like any other ff’s :/ it got boring… I mean, it’s like you had to follow the damn storyline and had no other option in which to take. It sucked. I liked 12 a lot since you could move around Ivalice so freely, not to mention decide who the party leader was and who was in the party. For me, 13 = good graphics, but bad gameplay.

You have to have songs you can care about in a FINAL FANTASY (Liberi Fatali in FF8 or One Winged Angel in FF7). You have to have interesting themes (this game had jack). You have to have a sense of adventure (the most lamest 1 dimensional RPG ever). But I admit, the story might have had potential although this game was total garbage.
