The Sony PS3 was released on 1st September, 2009 and it became an instant hit. The audience found it to be a very impressive game console because of its visible features such as slim sized body and light weight. It is 32% smaller and 36% lighter than the PS3. It also consumes 34% less power. The first model that was introduced had a hard disk capacity of 120 GB in which you can store downloaded videos, photos, games and more.
The Playstation network members can also make use of downloadable applications at6 their fingertips from where they can manage their downloads. We will quickly have a look at the pros and cons of the new PS3 slim.
The first pro is that the new game console has a very stylish design which is different from the same old glossy black finish. It is lighter, slimmer and smaller than the original PS3. It also has the new Cell processor that consumes less power. The cooling capabilities are also excellent and the machine does not heat even after hours of playing the game. You can play all the games in HD format and you can also watch Blu Ray discs. It also has a built in Wi Fi player and it can connect with all Bravia devices.
In terms of cons, the PS# slim is not backward compatible. It has just 2 USB ports and it is compatible with just 2 Bluetooth remotes. There is no card reader. The overall verdict is that it is a fantastic console.

The first technical feature that comes to your mind when you see the new PS3 Slim is that it is Slimmer and lighter than its counterparts and predecessors. In fact, its Slimness is the USP of the game console. The Slim also has a lower price tag and it is cooler than the previous versions. This is because it has the new Cell processor that does not heat quickly even after long hours of playing. The hard disk space has also been increased to 120 GB from the previous 80 GB version.
The PS3 Slim consumes 34 % less power and also takes 32 % less space. The glossy black finish has been replaced by the matte finish. Hence you have lesser dust and fingerprints on the body. However you will find a little bit of gloss on the side panels. The new PS3 logo is printed on the side. The hard disk can be easily replaced with another one without any technical support. The hide drive finds itself in front of the system instead of the sides. To replace the hard drive all you have to do is remove two screws. The Slim weighs just 7lbs and it measures 11.42 x 2.56 x 11.42. The touch screen buttons have been replaced with real buttons. The original 60nm processor has been replaced with the 45nm version.
The PS3 Slim also has a Blu ray player, internal Wi-Fi and 2 USB ports. Even the fan noise fan has become quieter. The Blu Ray can be used for watching movies as well as playing games.

It was first US retailer K-Mart who first confirmed the presence of the new 120 GB PS3 Slim hours before Sony’s Gamescom conference. The US retailer also starts taking preorders for the game console to be launched in September, 2009. K-mart also started banner ads of the new console which would be cheaper and Slimmer than the previous model. The game blog Kotaku also sent scanned posters of the new PS3 Slim to all its members.
The Hong Kong office of Sony also held a launch party in Causeway Bay, which is also Hong Kong’s major shopping area. The event was held on 31st August starting from 6 pm. Then there was also a listing on GameStop’s website that the new model will be shipped on August, 25th. The game was officially launched on 1st September, 2009 though Sony had declined earlier that it would release it on 1st September, 2009. The 120 GB version was introduced first and then after a few months the 250 GB version was also introduced. Earlier, Pkaystation chief Kaz Hirai had suggested that the PS3 would be available in some regions before 1st September, but the news from Sony was confirmed that 1st September was the official US date.
The PS3 was officially released on 1st September, 2009 thus ending all speculation of the dates of the release of the latest game console. With this released Sony was on a roll as it had also announced the release of the 250 GB version.

There were rumors in the beginning that Sony was soon launching the new PS3 Slim which was Slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, the PS3. There was further fuel added to the rumor when the Japanese game retailers were told by Sony that it would no longer supply them the PS3 console. Also the UK retailers were informed in early May that shipments of the current game console would stop. These events lead analysts to conclude that the current stocks of the PS3 were being cleared rapidly to make way for the newer version.
However when asked, Sony denied the replacement of its current console. Sony also denied that a price reduction would soon follow for their game console. Finally Sony announced that it would soon launch a Slimmer and a lighter version of the PS3 in the GamesCom conference in Cologne, Germany. As the event was getting close, the evidence of the Slim PS3 started to emerge. There were several retailers in the US and UK who began to report that the product code for the current 80 GB and 160 GB had been withdrawn and it was not possible now to order new stock of the current versions.
Also the online giant Amazon started outing up ads about the new Playstation 3 Konsole Slim thereby clearing all doubts in the people’s minds. The PS3 version soon became a reality which was on its way to be released. There was another US giant Kmart who also page devoted to the PS3 Slim.

The PS3 Slim has some great features and accessories that makes it the favorite game console of many people in the world. Let’s have a look at some of the accessories and features that the PS3 Slim ha to offer. To start with accessories, the PS3 Slim has wireless controllers so that there is no need to sit close the base unit in case you want to play games. The game console also has a wireless keypad and hence you can operate the unit from far also. Then you also have the Playstation eye which is another great accessory provided with the PS3 Slim.
In terms of features, the specialties include the Playstation network that allows you to connect to the internet and download games from the Sony site and other authorized sites. The new game console by Sony called the PS3 Slim is the first gaming device which features a Blu Ray disc player in which you can simply insert your disc and watch Blu ray movies. The only little disadvantage is the disc speed which is about 2x. However you can watch movies decently. You can also play other Blu Ray game discs. This is a quieter, faster and lighter version of its predecessors. It is also more energy efficient and it costs just $300 which is far less than any of the earlier versions. More than anything it is the price that has drawn large crowds to buy the gaming console.
For such a low price you can avail yourself so many new features such as large storage space, HDMI port, 2 USB ports, Wi-Fi connection and even hard disk upgradeability without incurring any installation costs. You can upgrade the hard drive by yourself, however there is no provision for changing the current version of the operating system.
As mentioned before, the Blu Ray player is a little but slower and you might not have a good experience in watching movies as the pictures will not flow smoothly. However it is difficult to get another game console that has so many features like the PS3 Slim. Also because of its small size and light weight you can take it anywhere you want. Honestly you will not find any other game console with so many features packed in.

Sony has been successful in cutting the costs for its new game console called the PS3 Slim. It has achieved this milestone by cutting down on the manufacturing costs And the electronics giant has passed this benefit to the consumer by reducing the selling price. The PS3 Slim features a lighter and a smaller body compared to its predecessors and competitors. The new Cell processor, jointly developed by Sony, Toshiba and IBM is cooler in terms of temperatures and less noisy. Even the power consumption of the unit is low at 250W. The additional features have been packed in to smaller circuit boards.
The Sony PS3 Slim version is available in 2 versions, namely 120 GB storage and 250 GB storage version. Apart from the storage space, all features are the same on both the models. There is the 2.5” SATA hard drive along with 256 MB GDDR3 RAM and also an integrated Blu ray drive that lets you play DVDs. There is also a built in Wi-Fi networking feature and wireless DualShock 3 controllers is that you can feel the vibration in your hands while playing action packed games. There is also an additional optical audio output and HDMI connection.
The game console also has the BRAVIA Sync system which lets you operate the TV and the game console with the same remote. You can access the main and common functions of both the devices from the single remote. Such changes have turned around the fortunes for the electronics giant.

Sony Computer Entertainment first announced the launch of its latest game console called the PS3 Slim at the GameCom convention in August 2009. The console went on sale after a few weeks ion September. It is a third Slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, the PS3. The game console sports a textured, glossy finish. Because of its power packed features, the PS3 Slim has been able to outnumber the sales of all its predecessors.
The game console is available in 2 popular versions where the first versions is available with a 120 GB hard drive and the second version is available with a 250 Gb hard drive capacity. Apart from the storage space both models are identical in all the areas. The purpose of introducing such big space hard drives was to increase the sales and also compete really hard against its competitors. The prices were also reduced which lead to a steep increase in demand.
Even the production costs of Sony were reduced because Sony was suffering from a loss on each unit sold in September 2006. Cost reduction techniques such as smaller sized Cell processor and cheaper Blu Ray disc drives onto a few circuit boards were introduced. This led to a large reduction in manufacturing costs and Sony passed on the benefit to the consumers in the from of price reduction. The new version comes with a cooler version of the Cell processor and features either 120 GB or 250 GB of storage with 256 MB of GDDDR3 RAM, built in Wi-Fi and Dualshock 3 controllers.

You can easily change the disk space any time of the PS3 Slim as it is available in different storage capacities such as 80 Gb, 120 Gb and 250 Gb. All you have to do is remove the panel from the front and then take out the metal structure. Then you just have to swap the new hard drive and replace it with the new one. You can download the drivers for the drive from the Sony site. You can then transfer the files into the PS3 update folder. You can then read the details on the screen and make the required changes accordingly.
You will also need a good PS3 Backup Utility if you want to manually transfer the files to the external storage. The Blu ray player is a little bit on the slower side running at a speed of 2x. The time between inserting the disc and the menu catching it takes about 10 seconds. You can launch the movie by clicking on the disc. You can also select from the myriad audio options and video options. You can even connect directly to the Sony Bravia LCD series so that you can operate both the devices from one remote. You can navigate the main menu and control the video playback and you can power on or off both the devices with the main power button. The Dualshock3 is a very handy feature but it works only with Slim hardware and it wont be coming in the classic in the near future.

One reason why people like the PS3 Slim is that the new Cell processor is extremely silent and does not make any noise similar to its predecessors. It is also Slimmer and lighter compared to the other models. The power consumption in the Slim has been cut by half. In terms of noise it is about 3 decibels quieter than the other models when playing games and 10 decibels quieter when watching Blu Ray movies. It is also quieter as compared to its competitors such as the Xbox 360.
Even the temperature of the new Slim model stays low in spite of playing games for hours on hand. Both the controls were at about 106 degrees Fahrenheit when playing games or watching the Blu Ray disc. This leads to less electrical bills as well as the game console consumes just 250 W of power than compared to other models that consume about 380W of power. The Slim’s hard drive can be easily swapped without any effort. You can swap it as and when you want without needing any engineer’s help. All you have to do is take out the blue screw from the bottom front of the console and then simply slide off the front panel. You can then pull out the enclosure and replace it with the 2.5 inch SATA drive.
If you install a brand new drive you can install the driver software from the Sony website. You can then transfer the driver in to the folder called PS3 update.
